Baptism at St Mark’s
Saint Mark’s Church | Saint Anne’s Chapel | Saint Mark’s School
Opawa-St Martins Parish
Anglican Diocese of Christchurch
Baptisms are normally done within the context of one of the Sunday worship services. This is because baptism is a new birth into the family of God, so the family of God is present to welcome the newest member of the family.
The date and time of the Baptism is settled with a member of the clergy staff, so please contact the parish in the first instance. This should be done before any other arrangements in connection with the baptism are made.
Godparents should be baptised members of the Christian Church, people who practice their faith in their lives and take an active role in the life of the church. This will make the promises they make in the Baptismal service more meaningful.
No fee is charged for Baptism but if you wish to make a donation to the parish as a thank offering to God, you are welcome to do so.
Baptism Liturgy
A bishop or priest presides over a baptism. A bishop presides for confirmation and renewal of vows.
