God-the-Mother

Mirabai Starr (tr), “Julian of Norwich: The Showings: Uncovering the face of the feminine in Revelation of Divine Love”.

A priest administering the last rites holds up a crucifix to a young woman on her deathbed. She experiences 16 visions of Jesus. A horror show of pain and agony, blood and gore dominates her visions at first. Out of the suffering comes a revelation of the feminine aspects of the Trinity.

"I saw three ways to look at the Motherhood of God.

The first is that she created our human nature.

The second is that she took our human nature upon herself, which is where the motherhood of grace begins.

And the third is motherhood in action, in which she spreads herself throughout all that is, penetrating everything with grace, extending to the fullest length and breadth, height and depth.

All One Love."

At the end of the revelations she awakes in pain but alive. She became the first woman to write a book in English, yet we still do not know her name.
