God’s emotions

Here is your pewsheet for the week.

I am sure you will appreciate what Ben has to say in his blurb this week. It reminds me of the Eastern Orthodox phrase for Lent: a time of "bright sadness".

In the last couple of weeks, I have been walking alongside a good friend from Ukraine who lives here. Her sister has managed to escape Kyiv safely with her child. But her parents are still trapped with her grandmother in Sumy. They have made 3 attempts to evacuate so far but have not yet managed it. If they find someone to ride with, there is a lack of petrol for the vehicle. The buses are often reserved for a category they don't fit in to. Each day I check the latest news and how to pray for the hours ahead. At times it has felt too much to carry, at other times it has felt like the most incredible privilege. I really have felt like I am sharing in the emotions of God. I would value prayer for my friend Diana's family and for her family here carrying the ongoing stress.

In the meantime, my parents have tested positive for Covid this week, and my mother in particular has not been very well with it.

But "we have not been given a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind." (2 Tim 1:7) As this week's sentence reads: "Our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ." (Phil 3:20)

We always have hope. Praise the Lord.
