Vigil for peace

From the Vicar

Vigil for Peace

Please see the message below from Te Raranga - an ecumenical group of church leaders from across the city.

“In a meeting of Christchurch church leaders Wednesday morning, we agreed to a call to prayer for Peace in Ukraine, next Friday 25 March, 2022. Given our Red Light restrictions, we are unable to organise a gathering of Christians from across the city in one venue to pray. Accordingly, we are calling individuals, families and  churches across the whole of our city and region to intentionally pray next Friday 25 March and, if possible, to organise an hour of concentrated prayer within the period between 7 am and 7 pm. That the situation in Ukraine is desperate and urgent goes without saying. Our Lord is the Prince of Peace and encourages us to pray for peace.”

Prayer Points:

* For peace and stability to be restored quickly

* Safe passage for civilians

* Safe aid routes

* The Church in Ukraine and surrounding countries

* Medical aid within Ukraine

* Refugee care and relief in border countries

* For God’s protection over children and families as they are uprooted from their hometowns.

* For Aid organisations to be able to quickly reach the most vulnerable families with the resources they need most.

Bishop Peter has asked for all churches to be open during those hours. However, being somewhat churchless at the moment, we’ll have to think of a different way of marking this. I hope to send an email out early next week with some details, but for now please mark the day as one of concerted prayer in your diary.
