A new year means Lent is nearly here
A new year has begun, and you know that that means… Lent is almost upon us!
This year Ash Wednesday falls on the 22nd of February. As usual, we will be hosting some study groups. This year they will be from 11-12 on Wednesdays and 6:00-7:30 on Sunday evening. I would love to be able to offer some extra groups, so if you think you might be able to host, please come and have a chat.
The Diocesan study guide this year is called “A Holy Church: Becoming the Communities We are Called to Be.” It has been crafted in part as a response to the Royal Commission into abuse in care. It does not deal directly with those stories, but rather looks at the use and abuse of power in a range of biblical stories. I have read through the resource and think it will serve as a very good spark for important conversations. Each week is written by a different contributor, including professors and lecturers from Laidlaw and Otago. Books are available today to either look through to see if you’d like to join a study group, or they can be purchased for $8.50
In other news, you may see on the foyer noticeboards some excellent artwork outlining our plan for a memorial garden. This is part of a medium-term project to cultivate the landscaping around the church so it is as beautiful as the church itself.
Huge thanks to Felicity and Glennys for planning the design which has been approved by Vestry. Felicity will share some images at a latter date for those, like me, who are botanically challenged and couldn’t tell the difference between a pansy and a peony. You’ll be hearing more about this throughout the year as we ask for donations in cash or care of budding plants.
