Builders of the Church

Today our Church calendar encourages us to consider the Builders of the Church in Aotearoa and we will be doing that in both services.

Our church history is a rich and courageous one of people who took great steps in faith, with some of them coming half way around the world, and all of them driven by a desire to make the good news of Jesus Christ known throughout the world. That history was continued by dedicated clergy and laypeople who established parishes, helped to form the organisational structure that we have, and made each church a vital centre of their community by preaching that good news in word and action.

We are inheritors of that history but we also have our part to play in taking it into the future. It is a fitting time to do so today as Rafaela is baptised and we recall our own baptism and our reception into the Church. There is a role for each of us to take as we live out those baptismal promises and, at the same time, contribute to building the Church in Aotearoa.
