The Roller Coaster of Life
For many the school holidays are coming to an end and the mad rush of the fourth school term begins. We look forward to the Friday school services starting again and Waka Puhara joining us at the 10 am service next Sunday (20th).
This Sunday’s Psalm is Psalm 90. When we pray the Psalms, we experience the roller-coaster of life, the highest of highs and the lowest of lows and all that lies in between. In Psalm 90 the writer seems to be writing from wisdom of age with a view of eternity, of the eternal nature of God and the limited life time of humanity.
The picture is massive, from before creation to the time of completion of all things, “before the mountain is brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” Within this picture we all follow the same path, from birth to death as the does all in creation.
Although our life may be short, we are held in God’s loving embrace in life and in death.
The writer of the psalm is encouraging the search for wisdom. It is by seeking God’s wisdom that we get to know true peace and love. So let us make the same plea that the Psalmist makes to God, “So teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart.”
Let us seek the Wisdom of God.
