Steadfast Love
We see around us the love of God
A line from Psalm 33 that I have been contemplating is "The earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord." Sometimes the challenge we have is to find it amid all the violence and the worrying things that we know are around us. The news headlines most often blare bad news, the people around us are full of negative opinion, and aspects of what is happening in our own lives cause us to fret. So it can be a challenge to proclaim - as our faith demands of us that the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.
Spring can help us here. As we see trees covered in blossom and plants start to push through the soil, while birds collect material for their nests, we see around us the love of God manifesting itself in these realities of new life and hope. And they do cause our hearts to lift in thankfulness and in praise at the beauty and wonder of our world.
Where else do we see the steadfast love of the Lord? It becomes easier to find
when we train our eyes and hearts to see it as we focus our attention on the positive and hope-filled happenings in both our world and in the people we share it with. Because it is around us, and in us, and must be identified and shared joyfully with those who have yet to discover it.
Shalom, Brenda
From the Vicar
In the Middle Ages Mary's Song inspired the Feast of Fools celebrated after Christmas usually around New year. This feast was a literal acting out of the Magnificat as a rather strange way of witnessing to God’s kingdom that inverts human power structures and raises up the oppressed to places of honour.
We are to give up our insatiable desire to consume and replace it with the expectation of the coming of Jesus.
Advent is a time of reflection and preparation for when time will end and Jesus will come in power and glory bringing our waiting to completion.
