The Steadfast Love of God
This Sunday, the 4th Sunday of Lent the Gospel reading is that of the Prodigal Son, that great parable that gives us enormous hope and much to ponder. The repentant younger son, the forgiving father and the self-centred older son. It’s a parable of undeserved Divine mercy and love and a caution not to be self-righteous. Appropriately we are also asked to meditate on Psalm 32. This psalm is poured out of a heart of a sinner. “Sorry” can be hard to say and even harder to mean! The psalm is taken to be written by King David and whatever the sin was that he had committed it was tormenting him. David is oppressed by his guilt. Confessing his sin to God, David gives joyous praise. Too often we can be stubborn and ignore God calling us to accept forgiveness. We thrash around until we finally accept the steadfast love of God.
This Sunday following the service (and a cuppa) we have our Annual General Meeting. This is an important time when we gather together and look back at the year now gone, and forward, to the time ahead as we consider how we can continue to be a faithful community of God’s people doing our part helping God’s Kingdom grow and flourish. It is also the time when we vote for and appoint “office bearers” who hold positions of service within our worshipping community to whom we give our thanks.
God Bless
From the Vicar
Over the past 160 years the St Mark’s church has been a place of prayer, worship and community.
The fact that Christ is risen, that the tomb was empty, is central to our faith as disciples of Jesus.
We are confronted by how easy it is to go from the joyful singing of “Hosanna” to the baying for blood in shouting “Crucify”.
Parish Officers
Parish Governance
The executive team of Vicar, churchwardens and treasurer meet constantly on parish business.
Parish Groups
Worship leaders, lay readers, servers, ushers, greeters, flower arrangers, cleaners, counters, intercessors and cup bearers all join together to support the service.
