From the Wardens (Jul 24)
We are pleased to announce that the Bishop has appointed the Reverend Simon Green as a long-term Priest in Charge of Opawa-St. Martins, from 1st October 2024 to 30th September 2026.
Simon is a newly-ordained priest in his mid-50s and is currently curate at St Michael and All Angels. He and his wife (and their family business) are domiciled and will remain domiciled in North Canterbury.
As Simon is such a new priest, he will continue to be mentored whilst he is with us by the Reverend Jordan Greatbatch, the Vicar of St. Michael’s. This was support the Wardens asked for and the Bishop was happy to agree with.
Simon will perform all duties a Vicar would, including ministry at St Mark’s School.
The Bishop has made this appointment with the support of the Wardens & Parish Nominators, and has stressed to us that he had no other options available once Brenda’s interim ministry concluded.
Brenda has agreed to extend her time with us by a month until the end of September, for which we are thankful.
We know some of you may have questions about this – we will do our very best to answer them over the coming weeks!

Will we make the choice to live as those who love the way of God and therefore find the depth, refreshment from the true source of life? Or do we choose a life of being blown around in the breeze avoiding the true source of life that provides us with rootedness, security and life?
Isaiah has been called by God to bring the people to account for their actions. They had turned away from God and that was being shown in how they were treating their brothers and sisters. Isaiah recognises his own faults and he is forgiven by God.
