Grace, Love and Fellowship
It seems hard to believe that we are already half way through February. Last week I had the privilege of being able to spend a day catching-up with the year 6,7 and 8 school children on their camp at both Hanmer and Waipara. It was great to spend some time with them outside of the usual class setting. They were full of energy, having a great time and suspect went home exhausted as would have the teachers and the “camp parents”. Last Sunday it was wonderful to have Cheryl and Laura from the Waltham Community Cottage with us at our services. It was inspiring to hear of the many group activities offered at the cottage and how the community is flourishing by loving and supporting each other. We were fortunate to be able to support this community financially from the proceeds from the Church Fair. Likewise, as part of this Church community, I encourage you to participate as fully as you are able with the many groups and activities that we have here.
This Sunday we explore our reliance on God’s Grace. We often pray “the Grace” - “May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Love of God and the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen” (NZPB p52). These are the words that the Apostle Paul uses at the end of his second letter to the Church in Corinth. Paul summarises his entire letter in these words of encouragement as he prays over the community that they will experience and delight in the Grace, Love and Fellowship of the Trinity. Our prayer is that all people experience the same.
God Bless

This Sunday, the 4th Sunday of Lent the Gospel reading is that of the Prodigal Son, that great parable that gives us enormous hope and much to ponder.
In early medieval times it was called the “Annunciation of the Lord” or the “Conception of Christ,” indicating its focus as a festival of the Lord.
The church has at its core offered a daily cycle of prayer what is known as the daily office.
